Privacy Lab exists to make privacy and data protection practical for African organisations. It is stewarded by Assegai Analytics as a not-for-profit workshop: free tools, open research, and a growing community of practitioners doing the work.

Every diagnostic on this site is free to run and always will be. No paywall reveals, no gated results, no bait-and-switch.
Free, practical tools
Anonymous, no-login diagnostics you can complete in minutes: the Needs Assessment, the Notice Grader, the POTRAZ tier + DPO checker, the GTM Roadmap, Founder Readiness, and the Shadow AI Discovery pack. Each one returns a real, actionable read on where you stand — with a shareable result you own.
Research, resources & datasets
The Research area is public-interest work, kept structurally separate from the diagnostics: the Africa Privacy-Law Tracker, the State of Privacy view, a growing Legal Library, and open aggregate datasets. No sales prompts, no gated PDFs.
A community of practitioners
Privacy Lab is written for the people doing the work — DPOs, founders, compliance leads, engineers, civil-society staff, and researchers. The Partners & Ambassadors programme opens the door for practitioners and organisations to contribute research, review tools, and help shape what gets built next.
Optional bridge to implementation
When you finish a diagnostic and want help turning the findings into a live compliance programme, you can choose to carry your result over to Trident, our paid privacy-management platform. This bridge is entirely optional — the Lab has to work well for people who never become Trident customers, and it does.
How we keep it honest
- Anonymous by default. The tools require no login, no email, and no organisation name. An org code — a random string — is the only handle we use.
- Research is kept separate. The Research area carries no sales prompts. It reads as public-interest work because it is public-interest work.
- Open method. The scoring criteria and law-tracker are versioned; we publish what changed and when.
